The Odeon York closes... and we meet projectionist Michael Buck

Projectionist Michael Buck wrote to share with other Cinema Technology readers his sadness at the closure of the Odeon in Blossom Street, where he had worked as a projectionist for many years, beginning in 1999. The cinema closed on 31 st August 2006, in spite of an unsuccessful campaign to keep open the Grade II listed building that lasted for a couple of years, and which was supported by Dame Judi Dench and Griff Rhys Jones. The Odeon at York opened in 1937, and was unusual in its all-brick design, by cinema architects Harry Weedon and Robert Bullivant, which was considered fitting for its setting in the historic city.
