Immersive sound... could it replace Dolby and DTS in cinemas?

Our current cinema sound systems generally provide some of the highest quality recorded sound that we are ever privileged to hear, but as those, like me, who regularly listen to live music are aware, even the best cinema sound or the top-end hi-fi systems don't actually provide true, natural, three dimensional sound. I am not convinced that they ever can - there is something psychologically different about listening to a live orchestra in a concert hall, and even though background noises are likely to be much more noticeable than from a CD and you will get musical errors that won't be on the CD, live music still has something very special about it.
