In 2004 more than twenty scholars of religion in the Americas gathered at thenUniversity of Missouri-Columbia for a conference titled “Moving Boundaries:nAmerican Religion(s) through the Louisiana Purchase.” Richard Callahan,nchief organizer of the meeting and assistant professor of religious studies atnUM, edited nine of the presentations and wrote an introduction for thenvolume New Territories, New Perspectives, producing an impressivencollection of essays on the religious dimensions of life in an enormousnterritory that practically doubled the size of the United States in 1803.
