Non-GMO Food Project Starts Third-Party Auditing Program

North America's first independent, third-party standard and verification program designed to avoid the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food production systems is up and running with 350 products enrolled, program participants say. Some food ingredient suppliers, including Cargill, say they offer customers a choice of using GMO or Non-GMO products. However, biotechnology holds enormous promise for farmers, the environment, and consumers, Cargill says. If opportunities develop to serve premium markets for identity-preserved grains and oilseeds that meet specific customer requirements, they will work with farmers and their customers to realize them.
