Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification technique used to reduce the loading of dissolved solids in solution. Since the development of the first high-performance RO membranes in the late 1950s, significant advances have been made in membrane materials, modularization, and cost. As a result, the feasibility of using RO for producing high-quality, purified water from brackish water and wastewaters in many industrial applications has improved.
