Science in the 21st Century: Harmony for the Millennium

摘要

As scientists, we pride ourselves on searching out the unknown and conquering the fear it evokes. The scientific method itself is a process of overcoming fear. It is a process of learning, discovering, and changing hypotheses based on the unprejudiced, and informed, interpretation of data. The paradox is that as scientists, as chemists, the fear we must conquer is often not in obtaining and interpreting new data, which might even profoundly require us to change our view of the world, but in judging the worth and value of the data based on why each of us obtained them.
