A number of public health and oth-er nationwide problems have de-fied solutions over the years, and they continue to do so, mostly because of inadequate and conflicting scientific information. Global climate change, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, pollution from automobiles, and even a modern air-traffic control system are examples of technological issues over which government, industry, and the public argue daily. With the nation's economy running on high and budget surpluses projected for the next decade, it's time to stop talking about these problems and start acting in a concerted way to solve them.
