CHEMICAL EARNINGS CONTINUE TO FALL

Chemical company earnings continued their long slide during this year's second quarter, but some hope was in sight. Whether it's because business is actually getting better or because the comparisons are to a weak quarter last year, the aggregate 6% decline in chemical company earnings in the second quarter matched that of last year's second quarter and was quite a bit less than the drop in any of the intervening quarters.
