Biotechnology in agriculture is a reality, not just a pipedream. Just look at the numbers. This year, half of the 72 million acres of U.S. soybeans are to be sowed with seeds genetically engineered to be herbicide tolerant, according to industry estimates. Significant percentages of 80 million acres of corn and 13 million acres of cotton in the U.S. will use insect-resistant crops. More than half of the canola planted in Canada will be transgenic.
