Can Europe's economy be turned around? Devastating austerity policies and a refusal to reform European Union-wide banking regulations have made for a painful recession and the prospect of slow recovery with very high unemployment rates. Now concern about deflation is rising in Europe. Has there been an example of poorer political management at any time since the Great Depression-or in any field? A group of prominent international economists, including our Editorial Board member Joseph E. Stiglitz as well as James K. Galbraith, got together to present a plan for a new egalitarian economic model to right the wrongs of recent economic policy. It is a thorough set of recommendations that encompass jobs, income equality, and widespread opportunity. Taxes and social policies are both central to their reform ideas.
