A bad year? Not for LUFTHANSA CARGO. The cargo arm of Germany-based Lufthansa reported 2008 operating profit up 20.9% to € 164 million as revenue rose 6.3% to €2.9 billion - its second best-ever result. Lufthansa was not exempt from the fuel price fluctuations and demand reduction that faced other carriers, and although it did better than most, its strong financial result came despite straitened operating circumstances. Cargo traffic for the year was down 2.8% to 2.28 billion RTKs while cargo volume declined 6.0% to 1.7 million tonnes.
