The result has been just 50 million cards issued worldwide with the software onboard. By comparison, U.S.-based Sun Microsystems can boast of more than 1 billion smart cards rolled out with its Java Card operating software, which competes with Multos for what both Sun and Multos backers refer to as the market for "open" smart card software.
