By now, most readers will be aware that a government-financed 'scrappage' scheme has been introduced and will, in all probability, be fully up and running by the time this appears in print. We think the scheme is in many ways ill-conceived, has no environmental benefit (interestingly, the motor manufacturers stopped stressing that particular aspect once they'd got their way) and could lead to the early demise of many of the best older cars.
