The company plans to take preorders soon for bulbs equivalent to 75- and 100-watt incandescents. To succeed, Finally will have to compete with other energy-efficient bulbs, including LEDs and compact fluorescents. "We've seen more innovation in the last five years than in the previous 125," says Noah Horowitz, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council, an advocacy group. He adds that there are 4 billion screw-in sockets in the U.S., making it unlikely one technology will conquer the entire market.
