By any yardstick, Cardiff Bus is the single most important operator in south-east Wales. It has come a considerable way since Cardiff Corporation bought Cardiff Tramways in 1902 and brought the company into public ownership. It capitalised on the closure of National Welsh in 1992, allowing it to extend its services into the Vale of Glamorgan and surrounding areas. It has long operated as far east as Newport and now goes as far west as Llantwit Major.
