In an unprecedented move, Scottish traffic commissioner Joan Aitken says she has established no evidence of criminal activities by any members of the family that owns McGill's Bus Services, one of the largest independent operators in west central Scotland, dismissing such allegations as 'gossip and chitchat'. Although she has fined the company £60,500 for failing to run some of its services as registered, she has increased its operator licence authorisation from 110 to 150 vehicles. McGill's wanted the authorisation increased to 190 vehicles. But the most significant part of her findings, following a public inquiry on 5 March, has been to clear the names of the Easdale family, which has owned the Greenock-based company since October 2004.
