Apart from those acquired with the takeover of Young's Bus Service, Paisley, Western SMT took delivery of 40 new Alexander-bodied and 22 used vehicles during the year. New were B39F-bodied Albion CX39Ns 11 /2 (BSD 28112); C30Ft-bodied AEC Regal IVs 920-33 (HWS 927-40); and Daimler CVG6 double-deckers 934-57 (BSD 283-95, 459-69). The Regals were to have been Scottish Omnibuses B425-38 but were diverted to Western as it needed coaches with toilets for the Glasgow-London service. Towards the end of the year, 22 Guy Arab Us came from London Transport with Massey, Park Royal and Weymann highbridge bodywork; they were numbered 988-1009 and all but 988- 90 soon received new Alexander lowbridge bodies.
