Southend route relaunched on crest of The Wave

Arriva Southern Counties has relaunched one of its best performing services in Southend with 12 new Optare Versa single-deckers worth ￡1.8million — the first new buses in the town for 1 1 years. Growth of traffic on route 9 (Shoeburyness-Rayleigh) is attributed in part to a dedicated website created to highlight its conversion to low-floor several years ago. From 12 November, it was rebranded as The Wave, a name emphasising the town's seafront and eastern districts. The route also serves the renamed London-Southend Airport, which is expanding rapidly following acquisition by Stobart Group, with easyJet set to base several aircraft there from next spring as an alternative to Stansted.
