Someone who refuses to allow unpredictable tendering to drive his company off the London bus network is Dean Sullivan, founder and managing director of Sullivan Buses. After almost two-and-a-half years, the South Mimms-based operator returns to Transport for London bus routes on 4 February when it takes over the 298 (Potters Bar-Arnos Grove) from Arriva London North. This may not have been the work upon which Sullivan — a lifelong transport enthusiast — founded his company in 1998, but tendering enabled him to gain a foothold in the market, helping build a business that has grown into one with a mix of contracted and commercial work, private hires and a high profile sideline providing buses for filming work (Buses August 2007).
