German state-owned railway Deutsche Bahn has started the country's first driverless public bus services using an all-electric robot shuttle. The French-built Easy Mile EZ10 takes passengers along a short route of 700m - just under half a mile - between the centre and hot baths in the Bavarian resort town of Bad Birnbach. DB chief Richard Lutz says this has 'ushered in a new era of public transport'. The service from 10.00 to 18.00 daily is free to use and a one-way journey is timetabled at 13min - longer than it takes to walk the distance. There are plans to extend the route by a further 2km to the town's railway station.
