London Bus Museum closes for family-friendly refit

The London Bus Museum at Brooklands closed on 2 November for a major refit. When it reopens in the spring, its displays will have been reorganised to appeal to families with children. Instead of the current timeline of buses, visitors will be greeted by Routemaster RM140 as an example of what is, to many, the archetypal London bus. They will then pass to a central hub, around which will be a railway-style roundhouse of buses which will answer questions such as why some of London's were green and show that electric ones are nothing new. The hub will host a changing display of artefacts telling stories such as the work by women in London Transport and the Windrush generation of immigrants recruited from the Caribbean. Encompassing the hub will be a virtual roadway which will initially have a display of vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s with a bus stop and Q shelter.
