Prompted by last month's look at the advice from the Department for Transport and Transport Focus on how to communicate with customers during the pandemic, Phil Blair of Eastleigh-based Xelabus has provided us with examples of what it has been doing in its patch of south Hampshire around Southampton. Its challenge was partly to reconnect with an increasingly mobile public, as Xelabus had taken the tough decision to suspend all services when the lockdown was declared in March, resuming services on a phased basis between 8 June and 6 July. This all began modestly, with Monday to Saturday operation of route X4 (Eastleigh-Hedge End, six round trips a day), a weekdays free service for Asda in Fareham (four round trips a day) and the free service to Tesco at Winnall from Alresford on Thursdays and Stoke Charity on Fridays (one round trip on each). Monday to Saturday services resumed from 22 June on routes X6/X7 (Eastleigh-Hiltingbury), X9 (Bishop's Waltham-Eastleigh) and X10 (Bishop's Waltham-Southampton).
