This 81st attractively priced picture album in Silver Link's Nostalgia Collection is penned by Chris Harris, the retired publicity manager for Go South Coast. It tells the story of the Royal Blue coach business synonymous with holiday routes to south-west England. Started by the Elliott family in the days of horse traction, it became part of the Tilling Group in 1935 when the head office transferred from Bournemouth to Exeter-based Western National and Southern National, which took 36 and 35 coaches respectively. Tilling ownership turned it from AEC and Leyland coaches to Bristols. It survived until the National Bus Company introduced its white National coach identity in 1972. Harris's sentimental side may regret that move, but his rational side sees it as 'a bold step.. .exactly the right move at the time'.
