New ferry links as new operation succeeds E&D

A Hayling Ferry bus link has been launched by new operator Portsmouth City Coaches, which took over West Sussex independent Emsworth & District after its 18-vehicle operator licence was revoked (Buses August). Services were restored on either side of the struggling Hayling Island-Eastney ferry on 24 September, avoiding circuitous road journeys around Langstone Harbour into Portsmouth with no direct bus routes. Portsmouth City Coaches is running new half-hourly weekday peak route 149 on Hayling Island for a six month 'use it or lose it' trial aimed at car commuters and funded by Havant Borough Council. Southcoast Motor Services loaned preserved open-top 'Queen Mary' Leyland Titan PD3 406 DCD for the launch.
