The Romanian Geothermal Association (RGA) is a non-political and non-profit national geothermal association, registered in Oradea (Romania) in May 1991. RGA's purposes are to facilitate geothermal research, to promote utilisation of the earth's heat and to foster educational activities in the geothermal sector in Romania. The first general assembly of RGA was held in Felix Spa on 6th of July 1991 when the Statute was approved and the BoD was elected. The initial RGA membership was 34 in 1991. In 1993 the number of members increased to 43, reaching a maximum of 64 in 1995. During 1996-2001 the number of members decreased constantly: 62 in 1996, 54 in 1999, reaching 36 members in 2001. The reduction of membership is due to both the drastic reduction of available funds allocated from the state budget to geological exploration and research and the lack of funding of new geothermal development (either targeting communities or private customers).
