Hollywood has now entered the fracking debate with the oil and gas industry. A new movie, Promised Land features Matt Damon as a landman negotiating mineral leases with naive landowners in a beautiful Pennsylvania village. Matt represents an "evil" oil company that intends to drill wells in order to frack shale for the production of oil and gas. The movie raises the issue of injecting water and chemicals during the fracking process. In the film the chemicals kill livestock and pollute shallow ground water.
