A CORUNA: a Port with a Great Historic Heritage and Full of Future

The port of A Coruna is the first industry in the city, located in the North West of Spain, just where the Atlantic Ocean and Cantabrian Sea meet. This is a city with 250,000 inhabitants, characterised with the hospitable and cosmopolitan mood of its people, whose open and enterprising character has been deeply influenced by the port itself. The port, strongly linked to its history and social and economical evolution, is currently at a key inflection point with the enlarging of its premises and distancing of the most sensitive traffics for the city centre, due to the commissioning of a new Port in Punta Langosteira (Outer Port), in the neighbouring Arteixo, hardly 10 kilometres from A Coruña and far away from the greatest populated areas.%Le port de La Corogne, au nord-ouest de l'Espagne, première industrie de la région, entreprend un agrandissement de ses installations et, dans le même temps, l'éloignement de la circulation la plus dangereuse du centre de la ville, grâce à un nouveau port construit à Punta Langosteira (port extérieur). Le port intérieur, quant à lui, s'efforce de maintenir et améliorer son positionnement dans les domaines de la pêche et du tourisme de croisière. L'administration portuaire de La Corogne gère ces deux ports, ainsi que certains des phares les plus spectaculaires au monde. Beaucoup s'élèvent le long de la célèbre Costa da Morte, comme Vilán, Camarinas, Touriñán et Punta de Laxe. Mais le plus spectaculaire de tous est sans aucun doute la Tour d'Hercule, phare singulier de construction romaine encore en activité, un site classé au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité par l'UNESCO en 2009.
