Expressions of ICAM-1 and its mRNA in sera and tissues of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

The increased expression fo ICAM-1 on a wide range fo cells and in the sera of patients with malignancies, chronic liver diseases and inflammation diseases has been described since the late 1980s~[23-31]. It is well known now that ICAM-1 expressed in two ways in HCC: (1) membrane- bounded ICAM-1 on the surface of HCC cells (mbICAM-1) which did not express in normal liver cells, and (2) soluble ICAM-1 (sICAM-1) in sera of the patients, the concentration fo which is well correlated with the progress and prognosis of the disease~[32].
