Caplin Homes teams up with DeMontfort in solar homes project

Sustainable housebuilder Caplin Homes has teamed up with a university to create a new model for affordable zero carbon housing. The Leicester-based firm has partnered with academics from DeMontf ort University to test a system which could enable a building to be self-sufficient for heating and hot water using only solar energy. The system works using a heat store called an "Earth Energy Bank", which consists of pipes installed 1.5m into the ground and collects heat generated from the earth.
