Northern powerhouse think-tank launched by Osborne

Former chancellor George Osborne has launched a Northern powerhouse think-tank - and signed up organisations including Shard builder Mace. At a launch event in Manchester last Friday, Osborne said he was committed to keeping up the momentum on his pet project, despite leaving the government after the Brexit vote. He is remaining on the backbenches and will seek re-election as an MP in 2020. Osborne, who will chairthe Northern Powerhouse Partnership, said: "Chairing this new partnership will now be a major focus of my political energies. The Northern powerhouse is here to stay." Mace is the sole construction firm to sign up so far. Barclays and Manchester Airport Group are among those also lending their support.
