Who's watching over Crossrail's design?

It's been hailed as the key to London's development over the next 20 years and as a project that will help the UK's economic prosperity. Scores of leading practices are involved, yet there are fears that the design direction of the project will be compromised by cost constraints and red tape.rnYou'd be forgiven for thinking the project in question is the 2012 Olympic Games. In fact, it's Cross-rail. Promoted by Gordon Brown as the "big infrastructure decision" for 2008, the ￡16 billion, 118km-long scheme, linking Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west via central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, is billed as a ￡30 billion boost to the economy, one which will create 30,000 jobs and enable an estimated 200 million passenger journeys a year.
