Greenwash continues to be splashed ever more promiscuously across the facade of "sustainable" Britain. Councils and quangos bleat on about the need to lower carbon footprints even as they carry on supporting their beloved supermarkets, cul-de-sac housing, road widening schemes, threats to allotments or the boarding up and demolition of old residential streets - ever been to Toxteth? - that could be brought back to life with the tiniest dose of common sense. But, as there are no big businesses to please in places like Toxteth, it's the former that carry on, wilfully and cynically, even as talk about sustainability becomes deafening.
