Westminster offers five-year planning

Planning officers in central London have responded to the recession by offering developers the opportunity to apply for planning permissions lasting for five years.rnWestminster Council's move comes as projects across the UK are being put on hold because of the recession. The council said it wants to spare developers the cost of resubmitting applications if they are not able to start work within the current three-year deadline.rnApplications for a five-year permission will have to "justify" their reasons for requiring a longer period of grace.rnRobert Davis, Westminster's deputy leader, said: "I hope this concession will ensure some developers will be able to planrnfurther ahead more easily, however, I do not think it is appropriate for all developments and will be strictly on a case-by-case basis.
