Brussels' Palais des Beaux Arts is currently presenting Pacing Through Architecture, a retrospective of the work of Belgian practice Rob-brecht & Daem. The show -which has been conceived by the architect - draws its impact from the juxtaposition of two different modes of representation.rnThe centre of the darkened gallery is occupied by trestle tables on which 2D images (drawings and photographs) have been deployed. The walls support five short films, commissioned from director, Maarten Vanden Abeele. Each film presents a different Robbrecht & Daem project and focuses on the activities that the buildings frame. An audience milling through the foyer of a concert hall in Bruges, children playing in a public square in the coastal resort of Knokke, a solitary journey through woods to a fairytale cabin, a pianist practising in a converted dairy, the daily life of Robbrecht & Daem's own office -these looped scenes play out simultaneously, their soundtracks blending to form a mellow cacophony.
