The Pantheon is like an architectural point zero, a fountainhead of influence. It was an impressive building when first built and it's been impressive ever since. There can't be many buildings that have retained their power for two millennia and are still in use. I can't think of any other intact public buildings that are so old. People have been coming in and out, marvelling at the dome and sitting on its steps for 2,000 years.
