The Venice Architecture Biennale, even when incomprehensible or ineffably banal, is always a delight. The city itself, a kind of built fiction, smiles serenely on the show, and only the most world-weary, or zealously puritanical, architect could fail to enjoy themselves in such a playful and perennially romantic setting. This year's event, however, promises to be as enigmatic and confusing as the city's notoriously labyrinthine map. For one baffled moment, I thought the show was being curated by Little Britain's Vicky Pollard rather than the Pritzker Prize-winning Sanaa architect Kazuyo Sejima.
