Laura Oldfield Ford's assiduous line-drawn urban vistas - known to BD readers through her illustrations for Owen Hatherley's Urban Trawl series - present scenes from the underbelly of city life. They are filled with pathos for the human inhabitants just about getting by within these confines - usually documented through the traces they leave behind, such as graffiti and litter - and also demonstrate a politically charged anger directed at the more powerful players in city life: the politicians, landowners, developers - and, yes, sometimes even the architects.
