J Mayer H Architects has completed a border checkpoint in Georgia. The Sarpi checkpoint, on the border with Turkey, sits at the shore of the Black Sea. The building features cantilevering terraces and a tower that can be used as a viewing platform overlooking the coastline. As well as customs facilities, it houses a cafeteria, staff room and conference room. MVRDV has unveiled proposals for the Flowerbed Hotel in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. The 19,500sq m hotel and conference centre is entirely devoted to flowers and will be located beside the future Bloomin1 Holland theme park. It is composed of a series of stacked volumes inside a greenhouse and will have 280 rooms - each with a floral theme - and 2,100sq m of flower beds. The hotel lobby will also feature a public flower garden.
