Oxford college leaves revamp finalists in limbo

Oriel College has put its £10 million design competition on hold, leaving the high-profile finalists in limbo. The shortlisted practices -Amanda Levete Architects, Allies & Morrison, Caruso St John, Panter Hudspith and Wright & Wright - will now be asked to take part in a competitive interview late next year. Malcolm Reading, running the competition for the Oxford college, admitted the decision was frustrating for the teams. But he said their proposals had raised wider issues that Oriel needed to reconcile, which had prompted a review of its masterplan.
