Balkrishna Doshi wins RIBA Gold Medal

RIBA has named Balkrishna Doshi as the recipient of the 2021 Royal Gold Medal. The acclaimed Indian architect follows in the footsteps of 2020 winner David Adjaye and 2019 recipient Grafton Architects in being granted the UK’s highest honour for architecture. The award, which is personally signed off by the Queen, has since 1848 been given to a person or group of people who have had a significant influence on the advancement of architecture. Earlier recipients include Grimshaw, Neave Brown, Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier, who Doshi worked with in the 1950s.
