Developer and property manager Peabody Properties enlisted The Architectural Team to design a supportive housing development for male and female veterans in Lyons, N.J. With a capacity of about 60 clients, Valley Brook Village is a model community designed to provide permanent housing that addresses the physical, wellness, and emotional needs of veterans dealing with disability, depression, post-traumatic stress, unemployment, homelessness, and other serious issues. Designers took a sustainable approach, targeting LEED Silver, within a noninstitutional setting intended to foster a feeling of community. Windover Construction was the general contractor, and Affordable Housing & Services Collaborative oversees the property's operations. The team is building four similar facilities for the VA Supportive Housing program led by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
