As one of the first dual-function military facilities in the nation, the $52 million Army National Guard Readiness Center and Army Aviation Support Facility in Kankakee, III., will have a 118,530-sf aviation support facility, a 63,900-sf readiness center, and communal gathering spaces for the facility's three units: 935th, B106, and Medlvac. The units will also share the building's classrooms and conference spaces, as well as a second-floor medical exam area. Designed by Chicago-based Bailey Edward, with KJWW Engineering as MEP engineer and Hanson Professional Services as structural engineer, the building will feature a colorful facade that reflects the digital patterning of soldiers' camouflage, and will meet anti-terrorism force protection requirements. The facility is expected to open in late 2016.
