Aaron Ramey had never built a news operation from scratch but had some ideas how to do it when he came on board at WBND a year ago. Hire young, tech-savvy talent just out of journalism school and pair them with deeply experienced broadcast news veterans. With many South Bend-Elkhart employers laying off workers, WBND added 40 bodies and had a full slate of news on the air by April. "We know we are underdogs, and we love that," news director Ramey says. "There's a team atmosphere that's not like anything I've been a part of."
