Those 1960s Games unknowingly had a profound impact on television. During the men's slalom event, officials were unsure if a skier had missed a gate and asked TONY VERNA, a CBS production staffer, if they could review tape of the event. Three years later, Verna would develop the first instant replay system. From 1964 to 1988, ABC held the majority of the TV rights for the Winter Games. Back then, Olympics TV rights were sold on a Games-by-Games basis.
