This book is neither-contrary to what its title might suggest-a defence of nominalsim, nor-save in occasional forays largely incidental to its central purpose-a destructive critique of it, but an attempt to provide an overview of the reconstructive strategies available to the would-be nominalist which brings into clear focus the technical resources each strategy calls upon and the extent to which it might render nominalistically acceptable such mathematics as is needed for science.
