Engineers at Minnesota DOT in the USA have just started work on the third phase of research into the use of unmanned aerial systems for bridge inspections. The DOT is again working with Collins Engineers to complete this next phase of research testing drones for bridge inspections, with a new focus on confined spaces. The purpose of the research is to improve the quality of bridge inspections using unmanned aircraft systems. Jennifer Wells, Minnesota DOT maintenance bridge engineer, will serve as the project's technical liaison and Collins Engineering regional manager Barritt Lovelace will be principal investigator.
