This new hardback book by architecture correspondent Marcus Binney is an odd beast. It is certainly a weighty tome with great reproduction, stunning images and a classically elegant layout - the epitomy of the coffee table book in fact. Having admired its classic good looks, I eagerly opened the hardback cover to explore what lay within. According to Binney's introduction he's been working on this project for more than ten years, although he also claims it has its origins in a talk he gave on the appearance of bridges at the UK's Institution of Civil Engineers way back in 1997. Suffice it to say, the book has been in development for at least two decades, a fact which might explain the slightly directionless character of the finished object.
