Amajor operation to float in the lift span of the new Sarah Mildred Long lifting bridge between Maine and New Hampshire last month (October) signalled the final stages of construction of an innovative movable bridge project in the USA. The Sarah Mildred Long bridge scheme involves the design and construction of a new crossing to replace the original structure which carried road and rail traffic over the Piscataqua River on a double-deck bridge between Portsmouth and Kittery.
