GRETA GARBO SPOTTED IN NEW YORK CITY

Greta Lovisa Gustafson (aka Greta Garbo) was only 19 years old when she came to the United States from Sweden to star in MGM films. The centennial (September 18) of the birth of this famously elusive movie star who shunned publicity and guarded her privacy is being celebrated with a major photography exhibition, a new publication, and soon-to-be-issued postage stamps. Garbo's Garbos, organized by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, features 90 original vintage photographs by Clarence Sinclair Bull, Ruth Harriet Louise, Edward Steichen, George Hurrell, and others, selected from Garbo's private collection by her great-nephew Scott Reisfield, and private dealer Robert Dance. Posters, lobby placards, magazines, and other memorabilia are also on view, and concurrent with this exhibition, Scandinavia House will present an extensive Garbo film series.
