It is hard to believe, looking at Aleksey Lapkovsky's remarkable series of dual portraits, that the London-based photographer took up photography just three years ago. Nevertheless, his Project 55, named after his use of Polaroid P/N 55 film, displays an imaginative examination of the interaction between artist and instrument. Working with dramatic combinations of ambient and artificial lighting, and a highly stylized —almost theatrical visua sensibility—he captures the magic that infuses the creative act.
